"Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed and everything will be well."

The old Kroger store downtown was/is owned by Mr. Koehler and Mr. Mussel. If I remember right Kroger still has 2019 to pay off its lease and then the building can be used by another.Lets let the owners of the building find a new business as the guys know how to make money!

As for the mysterious consultant my $ is on Strategus or Mike Flint. With kickbacks to Cooke , Craig as Welch is to stupid to accept money.

Lets now ask Joe Jenner on the progress of the Madison Plaza site ... Clear it and the will come and build ! Will the same hidden consultant be working on this site also or will they need more money for that.

Waste of Money all of it!

The best re-use of the old Ruler grocery store would be a large scale convenience store that also sells gas.

May as well just face reality and consider that $12,000 a taxpayer gift to some mysterious friend. Internally local government knows nobody is coming to that building and since Kroger couldn't make it work with JC or Ruler there's no one else in a position to try. There is also no other place downtown suitable and since neither previous entity was profitable you sure can't be profitable by tearing down and building new. If you read between the lines in local government, you will see this. The Mayor has already squirmed in his statements.

Businesses exist to make money and be profitable. Based on that, there is no grocery store coming to downtown Madison.

I know it’s a tough sell but What exactly do we pay Matt Wirth for if we have to hire a consultant to try and locate a grocery store for downtown? Is he not able to pick up the phone and contact some site consultants to discuss the opportunity? Nobody should get paid until the grocery reopens.

Agree, it will need to be demolished and rebuilt. Financial viability is questionable, at best given the local marketplace you are trying to serve (LMI).

I also found it interesting that the Mayor wouldn't name the consultant. Sounds like a favor to a friend to me.

Larry, I’m not a fan of a consultant either and the mayor kept referring to if the Market would allow it, 3 times he said the word. The biggest issue I see on the grocery store is location. Where can they put one ? Not just anywhere as there is no parking anywhere downtown. The old Ruler building has seen its better decades and is worn out and needs demolished. A larger grocery firm would most likely not locate there unless they could reach a so called good deal as they will want to demolish and build what they Want not what the current property owners have. It’s a huge investment and risk on their part. And on another note having a bar across the street, and a known city parking lot diagonal from the location that can be a rough area at times is not going to help the cause.

That information is over a year old but still a good reminder. He's starting to take the budget deficit seriously now even though government receipts are at record levels.

I'm a little surprised everybody is ok with spending $12k for a another consultant to find a potential grocery store for downtown. I would have attempted it for $11.5k. Have a great afternoon!!

Subject: Trump's Salary

On Friday, the Trump administration released their annual report to Congress on White House Office Personnel. It includes the name, status, salary and position title of all 377 White House employees. The report also said that Trump decided not to take a dime of his salary; instead he donated it to an amazing cause! See below.

The report also showed that President Trump is far better at saving money than Obama was. The total annual White House salaries under Trump are $35.8 million vs. $60.9 million under Obama, a savings of $25.1 million. Here are some other key findings:

There are 140 fewer employees on White House staff under Trump than under Obama at this point in their respective presidencies.

Thirty-nine fewer staffers are also dedicated to The First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS). Currently, there are only five staffers dedicated to Melania Trump vs. forty-four staffers who served Michelle Obama (FY2009)

However, it's what the report said Trump did with this salary that has everyone talking.

Instead of taking his salary, Trump donated all $400,000 to the Department of the Interior where it will be used for construction and repair needs at military cemeteries! AMAZING! It's so great to have a President who loves our brave military men and women so much!

Oh, and where's the media coverage of this? That's right, they don't cover anything decent that the President does..

BUT WE WILL!

PLEASE, PASS THIS MESSAGE ON TO ALL YOUR EMAIL PALS AND OTHERS!

TOGETHER, WE'LL GET THE MESSAGE OUT
