EFRENCES- Board Policies:
IHSAA VIOLATIONS Interscholastic Athletes: Po 2431 says the board subscribes to IHSAA rules and it is the BOARD that maintains responsibility for enforcement of those rules and other policies. ( So don’t blame the super or AD if nothing is done about IHSAA problems)
SEXUALLY SUGGESTIVE MATERIAL: Keep in mind the calendar is not being called obscene- nor would it meet the current definition of obscene but it goes without argument that the calendar is sexually suggestive and some would say explicit.
Regarding Anti Harassment- po3362 – the board will VIGOROUSLY enforce this policy and it applies to all activities which affect the corporation whether on or off property.
Item E. This policy includes sexually suggestive objects, pictures….placed in the work or education environment that may offend or embarrass--- this section relates to the “suggestive calendar” in the locker room.
Item G. A pattern of conduct which may be subtle in nature that has sexual overtones ---this section is the section cited by some community members when looking at the hotel room assignments, calendars and one team member who commented she “felt she had to pretend to be bisexual so the coach would like her.”
STUDENT SUPERVISION AND WELFARE: po 3213 item E -…may not give the appearance of impropriety including but not limited to …sexually suggestive. Please note staff are not only not allowed they are not allowed to even give the APPEARANCE of impropriety. This section has been cited by citizens who believe the coach at least appeared to act with impropriety in regards to the hotel room and calendar.
In regards to the assistant coach: policies mention conviction but do not cover recent positive drug tests by the corporation or other legal and reliable organization (former employer-IKE) however, several policies govern certain inappropriate contact with students and athletes. Under the same section STUDENT SUPERVISON AND WELFARE: item I- staff members may only communicate by text or electronic communication. Item J. specifically forbids the sending or displaying of electronic images via social images. This means the assistant coaches photos of team members in their PJs (at his home for an innocent overnighter I assume) should not have been posted on his facebook page. While its sweet and one is most likely his daughter- by Corporation policy his conduct and posting of it are major violations.
If you have questions about these policies or others related to the sports issue just post. I’ll see if I can help if not I’ll find someone who can. Tami
